Wightlink will once again be wishing its customers a ferry merry Christmas with a programme of seasonal musical entertainment this December.
There will be festive cheer on all three of Wightlink’s cross-Solent routes, thanks to the goodwill of local musical groups keen to showcase their talent.
School children from Wootton Primary School and St Catherine’s in Ventnor will be onboard St Clare to perform seasonal tunes, along with singers from OSEL, Ryde Chorus, Wight Harmony and the Fusion Arts Choir, an adult pop and musical theatre group based in Ryde.
Newport Jazz Club will be bringing some foot-tapping fun to the ferry, while the Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra’s string quartet will share some smooth classics with travellers.
On the Lymington to Yarmouth route, the A4 Brass Ensemble will perform some Christmas favourites on their way to perform in Freshwater on 7 December as part of West Wight Arts Association’s season of concerts, which Wightlink supports.
Dover Park Primary School’s Year 3 choir will be at the end of Ryde Pier to entertain FastCat customers with their Christmas repertoire.
Stuart James, Wightlink’s Director of Marketing and Innovation, says: “Wightlink is active in supporting the Island’s art scene and is delighted to be able to offer a platform for groups to perform and raise funds for their work or chosen charity. Many of this year’s performances coincide with our ‘Turkey and Tinsel’ coach bookings, so those visiting the Island for a festive break or travelling to the mainland can enjoy an extra special start to their journey.
“We hope what has become an annual programme of entertainment will also once again provide the performers with a rewarding experience.”
Jane Wilford, Head Teacher at Wootton Primary School, says: “The children thoroughly enjoyed performing with Wightlink last year and we were thrilled to be invited to return this year. Our pupils work really hard to learn their Christmas songs, so it is wonderful to give them an opportunity to perform in addition to our school shows.”
