The newest and biggest addition to our fleet, our environmentally-friendly flagship ferry has heralded a new, greener era of travel between the Isle of Wight and the mainland.
Her entry into service on 26 August 2018 marked the most significant point in a £45 million investment in our Portsmouth to Fishbourne route. She runs on hybrid energy, so much like a hybrid car, she runs partly on electricity when required. Sustainability is truly at the heart of Victoria of Wight.
Victoria of Wight is the first hybrid energy ferry in England, setting new standards for cross-Solent travel.
She combines battery power with conventional engines to sail between Portsmouth and Fishbourne, using 17% less fuel than the next largest ferry on the route, St Clare.
It’s not just hybrid energy engines that makes her so eco-friendly.
Her lift is capable of generating electricity through kinetic energy while warmth generated by the engine heats water on board. Motion sensors are used to control LED lights in areas that aren’t frequently used.

Portsmouth to Fishbourne on the Isle of Wight is a popular and convenient ferry route, getting you across the Solent in just 45 minutes.
A number of ferries serve this crossing, including our environmentally friendly flagship Victoria of Wight, each coming with spacious passenger loungers, sun decks and food and drink outlets to keep you refreshed.
Victoria of Wight has a broad range of facilities including food and drink outlets, lifts, toilets, baby changing facilities, outside sun decks and dog-friendly areas. Other facilities include a play-area, movie room and panoramic viewing lounge at the front of the ferry.

Victoria of Wight’s name was chosen from 183 suggestions made by over 70 staff members while she was being built. Many ideas reflected the route’s heritage and history.
The Victoria of Wight is registered under the UK flag in Portsmouth.
Victoria of Wight 89.7 metres long – about the same size as the height of The Statue of Liberty.
She was built in Yalova, Turkey, and was launched in 2018 before heading home to Portsmouth.
Victoria of Wight can hold 1,170 passengers at a time.
She can hold 178 vehicles at a time.
Our second-largest ferry, St Clare is capable of two-tier boarding and comes with a wide range of facilities.
Our eldest member of the fleet, St Faith continues to serve the Portsmouth – Fishbourne route, providing a relaxing journey across the Solent.
As one of our Wight Class ferries, Wight Sun serves our Lymington – Yarmouth route and, when required, our Portsmouth – Fishbourne route.
